Christmas Letter 2013 Sleep Apnea is improving all the time, but it means sleeping with a nose nozzle attached to a CPAP machine that pumps humidified and filtered air into the lungs to prevent almost all unconscious awakening events (apnea’s) while sleeping. Since the doctors have been involved Bill’s health has improved and he is getting more energetic every week and more sleep. We also decided to downsize our offices to be at Pakenham and for Joan to use the church office in Trinity Uniting Church Dandenong. So we sold 192 Princes Highway Hallam. So we decided to down size and also look at Joan semi retiring from the counselling service. Joan decided to ring the Age pension people to find out how to apply for the Age pension. When they asked the year of her birth and when she said she was born in 1938 the young man at the Age Pension told her that she wasn’t on the list. Joan said that she felt totally disenfranchised. He did apologised when she told him she was 75years old. Talking of age, Joan’s Aunty Flo celebrated her 100th birthday this year, (July 11th) Joan, Bill and Rosalind attended at Mildura. Suzanne and Brian went to Ireland to meet up with their daughter and our granddaughter Michaela who had been working as an au pair looking after two little girls. They all enjoyed a trip to Europe including Paris and discovered that Steven and Margret (cousins) were staying in the same hotel. Prior to returning home Suzanne hurt her leg and needed medical care before leaving for home and immediately needed to seek further medical help on arriving home. Michaela is now nanny to two young children and holidaying in Perth with the host family. Ian and Maryanne have settled into living in the flat underneath our house. Ian is very busy with Trinity Uniting Church and Mum keeping him busy fixing things. Rosalind is busy with Trinity Band and teaching English to refugees. Ian is responsible at Church for the Computerised Overhead projection, and Joan, Bill and Rosalind sing in the choir. We are thrilled with the preparations for Christmas in our church this year. Our minister, The Rev. Dr. Apwee Ting introduced the stringing of Asian paper birds from both sides of the church Ending at the stained glass windows behind the lectern with the imagery of a white dove at the top. Our special Christmas service was magnificent. On Thursday 6th December, we attended the Blue Christmas Memorial Service at our Church in Dandenong. This is run in conjunction with Le Pines funeral services. A Christmas tree is placed at the front of the church illuminated by only blue Christmas lights. On the leaves are hung small blue cards on which are the names of loved ones who have died during the year past. We placed a card in remembrance of out precious and much loved sister in law Edna Spencer. During the service the names and messages on the cards are read out in remembrance of them. Christmas blessings to you all, Joan and Bill Spencer and family, 6 Bindi Close, Hallam.
